In the past, even in production machining systems, there was still a potential limiting factor in the process. This limiting factor that determined the potential speed of all production was the need for human operators to load workpieces into the equipment. No matter how fast the production CNC machining process operated, the maximum capacity was always determined by the loading process.
By extension, this also limited the time that production could occur to the time human operators were on hand. Unless a machining shop ran shifts around the clock, there was downtime for equipment as well as production on a daily basis.
Our Solution
To be able to provide quality, precision production machining, Roberson Machine Company invested in robotic machine tending systems. These systems allow a robotic device to grab a workpiece, position it in the equipment and then also remove the workpiece, all done in the exact same motion and with exact repeatability time after time. This eliminates waste due to the slight variations that occur when people position workpieces in the equipment.
With the addition of the robotic machine tending systems, we also eliminated the potential bottleneck. These robotic arms can be set to work to the speed of the production CNC machining equipment, shaving time off of production by eliminating gaps in loading and unloading the equipment.
In addition, the robotic machine tending and the production CNC machining systems can work throughout the night, eliminating the downtime that is a necessity with the need for manual loading and unloading of the equipment.
