Roberson Machine Company, a leader in CNC machining and contract manufacturing for multiple industries, is pleased to announce that we have expanded our value-added services to include anodizing. Our facility has just acquired state-of-the-art coating and anodizing equipment and we are excited to offer these services to our customers.
Our anodizing machinery uses a sulfuric acid-base, which allows it to produce much more controlled, consistent coatings. Coatings are created by placing aluminum in a sulfuric bath which builds up oxidation on both the surface of the metal as well as into the metal itself. The dielectric property that results from this bath provides resistance to conductivity, protection from corrosion, and potential for several finish options including multiple colors.
Our anodizing equipment is capable of both Type II and Type III coatings. The difference between these two types is in the thickness of the coating: Type II anodized coatings are from anywhere between 1.8 to 25 micrometers thick, while Type III anodizing, also known as “hard-coat” anodizing, produces coatings thicker than 25μm. Each type has its own uses: Type II anodizing is mostly used on aluminum components not expected to be exposed to the elements much, while Type III anodizing, with its heavier-duty coating, also provides increased abrasion and wear resistance when compared to uncoated or Type II anodized aluminum.
At present, Roberson Machine Company offers both clear and black anodized coatings. More colors are available upon special request.
